As many of you know I was in Michigan this past weekend supporting the Penn State football team as they took on the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor. Being in the Blue Band, the seats that we got were not the best to say the least. We got four rows of bleachers, and it only fit two-thirds of the band. The remaining third of the band stood on the sidelines of the football field. I was fortunate (or unfortunate, depending on your viewpoint) enough to have a seat in the bleachers. Now, the side comment about unfortunate is quite the story. First of all, when there was still an hour left until kickoff, and hardly anybody was in the stadium, a lovely Michigan fan decided to toss some of his popcorn onto the baritone section. Comparatively speaking, this was a nice gesture. Throughout the entire game we heard the anti-Penn State chants such as, “How do you feel about raping children?” and their always obnoxious, “Hail to the Victors.” I still haven’t gotten that song out of my head. The real kicker was towards the end of the game when Michigan had pretty much already won. One of their fans was kind enough to say to the band, “We’re 3-4 and [expletive] suck, but we beat your [expletive][expletive]. We [expletive] suck, but you’re [expletive] worse.” And with that, I think that my rant is now over.
