“We are the Blue Band. Gotta love the Blue Band. We are the Blue…Who? Band! OH!!!”

In the Blue Band, there are more 300 members. This means that there are leadership opportunities out the whazoo. There are guides and squad leaders as well as the higher levels of leadership including:  Personal Relations Officer, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and President. In order to achieve these positions there is an application process. Let’s analyze the guide position. To become a guide, an individual must have all music memorized BEFORE the start of band camp. If they do not, then they can’t check off the members of their sections and nothing will get done in that regard. The guide must also be an expert in the marching style of the Blue Band, which is the traditional step, or high step. Once a band member feels they have achieved these two goals, they fill out an application that is submitted via the Blue Band’s Members Only section of their website. From their, it is up to how the interview goes as well as the band directors’ opinions of the prospective guide. If all goes well, he/she will be a new guide come the following season.
