As many of well know, the Blue Band did a “Best of the Decades” show. It was a combination of three suggested shows. The titles of all three were a “Best of …,” where the decade was the 70s, 80s, and 90s. The staff decided to combine it into one show that had one song from each decade. The 70s were represented by Bohemian Rhapsody, the 80s Back in Black/Sweet Child O’ Mine, and the 90s Smells Like Teen Spirit/Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing. Being a rock and roll lover from now until the end of time, I was ecstatic when I heard this was the show for the Maryland game….and then I heard the songs we were playing. The 90s have such a great selection of music and THOSE are the two songs that we play. I think Bohemian Rhapsody is too overdone. Heck, even UMASS’s band played it this year when they came to visit. Sweet Child O’ Mine was pretty good, but Back in Black sort of took away from what it could have been. I think that if I could change one song and only song though, it would be the Smells Like Teen Spirit/Don’ t Wanna Miss s Thing. To what you might ask? Well the justification is within the song title, so it’s obviously the winner.
